Mamata’s Statement Poses a Threat to Bangladesh’s Sovereignty: Mirza Fakhrul
Mirza Fakhrul Condemns Mamata Banerjee’s Remarks as a Threat to Bangladesh’s Sovereignty
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comments about deploying UN peacekeepers to Bangladesh, calling it a direct threat to the country’s independence and sovereignty.
“Mamata Banerjee’s statement is unequivocally a threat to Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. We believe this reflects, to some extent, the views of certain Indian leaders,” Mirza Fakhrul stated from London on Monday during his ongoing 10-day visit.
He demanded the immediate withdrawal of Mamata Banerjee’s remarks, asserting that such ideas are unacceptable. "The people of Bangladesh, who earned their independence through the Liberation War and have recently reclaimed democracy through a mass uprising, will resist such conspiracies at any cost," he added.
Allegations of Misinformation
According to the Times of India, Mamata Banerjee suggested in the Bidhan Sabha on Monday that an international peacekeeping mission should be deployed in Bangladesh and sought Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention. Mirza Fakhrul rejected these remarks and condemned the spread of what he described as false narratives in the Indian media regarding the communal harmony situation in Bangladesh.
“Many prominent journalists from West Bengal and other parts of India have visited Bangladesh and confirmed that such claims are baseless. Yet, the Indian media and leaders continue to propagate lies that threaten Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty, which is wholly unacceptable,” he asserted.
Concerns Over ISKCON’s Activities
Mirza Fakhrul also raised concerns about recent developments involving ISKCON, alleging its activities posed a threat to the stability and sovereignty of Bangladesh.
“The recent role of ISKCON is highly suspicious, mysterious, and clearly a danger to Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty, and stability,” he said, suggesting that this issue is part of a broader conspiracy against the country.
The BNP leader reiterated the commitment of the Bangladeshi people to defending their sovereignty and standing firm against any external interference or conspiracy.
