Bangladesh has called off a training program in India for 50 judges and judicial officers

On Sunday, Bangladesh’s interim government canceled a training program for 50 judges and judicial officers in India. The one-day session, initially scheduled for February, was set to take place at the National Judicial Academy and the State Judicial Academy in Madhya Pradesh. A spokesman for the law ministry confirmed that the notification for the program had been canceled. The cancellation came shortly after the state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported on the training session. India was supposed to cover the expenses for the program.

Relations between India and Bangladesh have soured since August, when the deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee Dhaka and seek refuge in India following violent protests that endangered her safety.

Tensions between the two countries have also risen due to a series of attacks on Bangladesh's Hindu community and their places of worship after the interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, took power. India has expressed concerns over these attacks on Bangladesh’s Hindu minority.

Additionally, the arrest of Bangladeshi monk Chinmoy Krishna Das on sedition charges has added to the strain in bilateral relations.

In a recent interview, Bangladesh's Army Chief Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman emphasized that the country relies heavily on India and will avoid actions that could harm New Delhi's strategic interests. Last week, India called for a fair trial for those arrested in Bangladesh following the rejection of Hindu monk Chinmoy Das’s bail plea by a local court.
