Bangladesh forms a five-member Election Commission under the leadership of AMM Nasir Uddin

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has appointed a new five-member Election Commission, led by retired secretary AMM Nasir Uddin, to oversee the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
The other members of the commission are Md Anwarul Islam Sarker, a retired additional secretary; Abdur Rahmanel Masud, a district and sessions judge; Tahmida Ahmad, a retired joint secretary; and retired Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.
The president selected the chief election commissioner and the four commissioners from a list proposed by a search committee. The Cabinet Division announced the appointments in a separate statement on Thursday.
Nasir, who is the 14th chief election commissioner, belongs to the 1979 batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration). He studied Economics at Chittagong University before becoming a teacher. He served as information secretary in 2004 and has held various senior positions, including fuel secretary, Planning Commission member, and health secretary.
Initially appointed by the interim government to lead the Local Government Reform Commission, Nasir is now at the helm of the Election Commission. In his first response to the appointment, Nasir told bdnews24.com:
"Inshallah, we will do everything in our power to ensure free, fair, and credible elections. As we take on this responsibility, we must do our utmost to fulfill it, with the cooperation of all."
