BREB has suspended seven officials in connection with the electrocution incident involving IUT students on a picnic bus
The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has suspended seven officials and staff members following the electrocution incident that resulted in the deaths of three students from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) on a picnic bus.
Md Akmal Hossain, the general manager of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samity-2, confirmed the suspensions on Sunday morning, which were ordered on Saturday night.
Those suspended include Kamlesh Chandra Barman, Deputy General Manager (DGM Sadar-Technical) of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samity-2, Khondokar Mahmudul Hasan, DGM of Mawna Zonal Office, Assistant General Manager Md Tanvir Salauddin, junior engineer Matiur Rahman, and linemen Parvez Mia, Shakhawat Hossain, and Abul Kashem.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning when the picnic bus, heading towards Gazipur, was electrocuted at Udaykhali in Sreepur upazila, Gazipur district. Three IUT students—Mozammel Hossain Nayeem (24), Mostakim Rahman Mahin (22), and Jobayer Alam Sakib (22), all from the Mechanical Engineering department—lost their lives, and 30 others were injured.
In response to the incident, the Gazipur district administration and IUT authorities have formed two separate investigation committees. Additionally, IUT has announced a three-day mourning period starting from Monday.
