Imran Khan’s Sister Arrested in Lahore Ahead of Planned PTI March
Police arrested Aleema Khan, sister of jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, from her residence in Lahore on Sunday, according to his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. The arrest comes ahead of a planned PTI protest march on September 27 demanding Khan’s release.
A notification issued by the Lahore district administration said Aleema Khan had been arrested and sent to jail for 30 days, citing intelligence reports that her presence in public could pose a serious threat to public safety.
The PTI has announced plans to march on Islamabad next week as part of its campaign for Imran Khan’s release.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Saturday that the government would take all necessary measures to prevent the protest march.
Zulfi Bukhari, a close aide to Imran Khan, condemned the arrest, calling it “absolutely despicable.”
“The fear of the 27th protest is clearly taking its toll,” Bukhari said.
