Tasnim Jara resigns from NCP, set to contest as an independent candidate
National Citizen Party (NCP) Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara has stepped down from her position, media reports said.
She has also declared her intention to contest the upcoming 13th parliamentary election as an independent candidate.
An NCP joint member secretary told the media on Saturday that Tasnim announced her resignation in the party’s social media group, writing: “Dear comrades, I have resigned from the party. Over the past one and a half years, I have learned a great deal from you, for which I am sincerely grateful. Best wishes to you all.”
In a separate post on her verified Facebook page later in the evening, Tasnim addressed residents of Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Mugda, describing herself as a daughter of the community who was born and raised in Khilgaon.
She said her dream had been to serve the people of her constituency and the country by being elected to parliament under the banner of a political party. However, citing the current situation, she said she had decided not to contest the election as a candidate of any party or alliance.
“I promised you and the people of the country that I would fight for you and work to build a new political culture. Regardless of the circumstances, I am determined to keep that promise,” she wrote, adding that she will contest the election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9.
Tasnim acknowledged that running without party affiliation would put her at a disadvantage, as she would lack access to a local party office, an organised activist network, and institutional channels to raise security or administrative concerns.
“You are my only source of strength,” she said. “As your daughter, only your affection and support—based on my honesty, dedication and unwavering commitment to practising a new kind of politics—can give me the opportunity to serve you.”
