A deep split has surfaced within the National Citizen Party (NCP) after 30 members of its central committee formally urged the party convener to rule out any electoral alliance with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

The internal disagreement intensified with the resignation of Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara, underscoring growing divisions over the party’s ideological direction ahead of the upcoming national election.

In a letter submitted to Convener Nahid Islam on Saturday, the leaders expressed serious concern over the proposed policy shift, NCP Joint Member Secretary Mushfique Us Salehin confirmed.

They argued that such an alliance would contradict the NCP’s stated ideology, undermine accountability linked to the July mass uprising, and violate principles of democratic morality.

The signatories further warned that aligning with Jamaat-e-Islami would erode the party’s moral standing and cause lasting damage to its political credibility.

Those who signed the letter include Joint Convener Khaled Saifullah, Joint Member Secretary Mushfique Us Salehin, Central Organiser Arman Hossain, Joint Convener Nusrat Tabassum, Joint Chief Coordinator Khan Md Mursalin, Organiser Rafiqul Islam Ainee, among others.
