PM: 37,814 households receive support under Family Card programme

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday said that 37,814 low-income and vulnerable households led by women have been included under the Family Card programme to strengthen social protection.

He noted that each of these households is receiving a monthly allowance of Tk2,500 to assist marginal and low-income families.

The remarks came in response to a written question from Tangail-6 lawmaker Md Robiul Awal during a session of the Jatiya Sangsad, chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.

Tarique Rahman said the government is working to build a safe, equitable and climate-resilient Bangladesh, where women and children will play equal roles in sustainable development and future generations can inherit a prosperous nation.

He added that the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs is implementing a range of programmes for the overall development and welfare of women and children.

These include the Vulnerable Women Benefit programme to improve the socio-economic condition of poor women; the Mother and Child Support Programme to ensure maternal nutrition and support children’s physical and cognitive development; microcredit initiatives to promote women’s self-employment; and activities of the Joyeeta Foundation to market products made by women entrepreneurs.
