Uranium consignment for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant fails to reach Dhaka due to airspace issue
The RNPP is being developed with assistance from Rosatom, Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy agency.
Uranium intended to fuel the second unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) could not reach Dhaka on Thursday due to an airspace issue.
All necessary preparations had been made at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) to receive the nuclear fuel. However, the cargo flight carrying the uranium did not arrive in Dhaka.
A Ministry of Science and Technology official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “We had completed all preparations and were waiting at the airport. We also contacted a liaison officer of Rosatom after the cargo flight failed to arrive. He informed us that the fuel could not be delivered because the airspace was not clear.”
The official, however, could not say why Rosatom had not received permission to use the airspace.

Despite attempts to contact a Rosatom representative, no response was received until Thursday midnight.
