Three leaders of JCD and BNP have been expelled over an attack on a Jamaat MP’s car in Netrokona.
BNP and its student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), have expelled three leaders over their alleged involvement in the attack and vandalism of a vehicle belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Masum Mostafa in the Netrokona-5 constituency.
The decisions were announced in separate press releases on Sunday, with both organisations stating that the individuals had violated party discipline.
According to BNP, Purbadhala upazila unit Joint Convener Ishtiak Ahammed Babu has been removed from all party positions. Meanwhile, JCD expelled its upazila unit Member Secretary Shaju Ahammed and former Joint Convener Solaiman Kabir on similar grounds.
Earlier, on Saturday, police arrested nine Jubo Dal activists in connection with the case, which names 50 suspects and lists another 50–60 unidentified individuals.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon after Masum Mostafa laid the foundation stone of a madrasa. On his way back, he stopped at Atkapara Giripath Filling Station in the upazila sadar to offer Maghrib prayers.
Eyewitnesses said that 25 to 30 যুবক arrived on around 15 motorcycles, created a disturbance, and vandalised the MP’s vehicle. When the lawmaker attempted to leave after prayers, he was chased and remained trapped for a considerable time.
He was later rescued by Purbadhala upazila BNP Senior Joint Convener Babul Alam Talukdar, along with additional police personnel. At a press conference that night, Masum Mostafa alleged the হামলা was premeditated and aimed at killing him due to political rivalry.
