Around 9:50 pm, protesters arrived in a procession with an excavator from Sylhet City Corporation. They broke through the main gate, entered the premises, and demolished the mural. Earlier, the Sylhet district unit of the Student Against Discrimination (SAD) had announced a protest rally and sit-in at 8:00 pm in the Bandarbazar area, timed with a scheduled speech by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, marking six months since her government's downfall.

The protesters also organized a daylong video exhibition in Sylhet city, showing footage of killings, abductions, and repression during the July-August mass uprising. Around 9:00 pm, they brought the excavator from under the Keane Bridge to the Deputy Commissioner's office, and by 9:50 pm, they had broken into the office and destroyed the mural.

Asadullah Al Galib, convenor of the Sylhet district unit, stated, "Killer Hasina fled to India through the back door after being chased by students and the masses. We reject her address. There will be no trace of fascists in this country, and we will remain vigilant."

The mural had previously been slightly damaged on August 5 of last year, after the fall of the Awami League government following the mass uprising. Authorities had covered it with white fabric. Then, on the night of January 30, a group identified as "Touhidi Janata" vandalized the mural again.
