NBR Attains 21% Growth in Revenue Collection During July-August

Revenue collection by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) recorded a 21 percent growth during July–August of the current fiscal year (FY26), reaching Taka 54,423 crore, compared to Taka 45,005.16 crore in the same period of FY25.
In August alone, NBR collected Taka 27,174 crore in FY26, up from Taka 23,089.37 crore in August FY25. This represents an increase of Taka 4,084.5 crore, reflecting year-on-year growth of 18 percent.
The highest contribution in August 2025 came from the local VAT sector, with collections of Taka 11,085 crore against Taka 8,283.15 crore in August 2024—marking a growth rate of 33.83 percent, according to an NBR press release.
Revenue from income tax and travel tax stood at Taka 8,442 crore in August 2025, which is Taka 1,643 crore higher than the Taka 6,798.73 crore collected in August 2024, showing a growth of 24.17 percent.
In contrast, revenue from the import and export sector totaled Taka 7,647 crore in August 2025, down from Taka 8,007.62 crore in August 2024. The decline is attributed to changes in economic codes under the iBAS++ system, which shifted a large portion of customs house revenue into September 2025, resulting in negative growth for August.
NBR noted that its officials are working relentlessly to expand the tax net, ensure compliance, and strengthen efforts to curb tax evasion to sustain this growth trend. The board also expressed confidence that taxpayers, by paying taxes on time and in accordance with the law, will continue to be proud partners in nation-building.
