JnU student found dead at mess in Old Dhaka

The body of a Jagannath University student was recovered from a mess in the Bhati Khana area of Old Dhaka on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Akash Sarkar, a Theatre Department student at Jagannath University, hailing from Faridpur district.

According to a housemate, Ishtiaq, Akash’s girlfriend called him around 9:00pm, saying she had been unable to contact Akash by phone. After the call, Ishtiaq went to Akash’s room and found it locked from the inside. Receiving no response despite repeated calls, he broke open the door and found Akash hanging from the ceiling. He then immediately informed the police.

Nazmul Hasan, inspector (investigation) of Gandaria Police Station, said police recovered the body at around 9:30pm after being alerted and later sent it to the Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for autopsy. He added that the incident is initially being treated as a suspected suicide.
