The appointment orders of six newly appointed members of the Public Service Commission (PSC) have been revoked.
The Ministry of Public Administration announced the cancellation in a notification on Monday, which was approved by the President. The individuals affected are Professor Shahnaz Sarkar, Md. Munir Hossain, Brigadier General (Retd.) AF Jaglul Ahmed, Md. Mizanur Rahman, Shabbir Ahmed Chowdhury, and Professor Syeda Shahina Sobhan.
According to the Ministry’s notification, these individuals had not yet taken their oaths. The decision to cancel their appointments was made in the public interest and will take immediate effect.
The government had appointed the six individuals as new members of the PSC on January 2. However, on January 8, the PSC requested the Registrar General’s office of the Supreme Court to postpone their oath-taking. The Supreme Court granted this request, postponing the ceremony. A PSC source revealed that the delay in the swearing-in was prompted by online criticism of some appointees, who were alleged to have ties to the previous government.
With the cancellation of these appointments, the PSC now has nine members, including the chairman.
