Iran assures safe passage for Bangladeshi oil and LNG vessels through Strait of Hormuz
Iran has agreed to provide safe passage to Bangladeshi oil and LNG vessels travelling through the Strait of Hormuz, offering relief as rising tensions in the Middle East threaten global energy supply routes.
Under the arrangement, Bangladeshi ships will need to notify Iranian authorities before entering the strategic waterway to ensure secure transit.
According to media reports, Tehran’s decision comes as the government of Bangladesh steps up efforts to maintain a stable fuel supply through multiple strategic measures amid the ongoing regional conflict. Dhaka had sought assurances from Iran to ensure the safe passage of its oil- and LNG-carrying vessels through the strait, one of the world’s most critical energy shipping routes.
Energy officials said Iran has agreed that Bangladeshi vessels will be allowed to pass through the waterway after informing Iranian authorities prior to entering the strait, easing immediate concerns over the country’s fuel supply.
