"Full High Court Verdict Published in BUET Student Abrar Murder Case"

The full verdict of the High Court (HC) in the BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case—upholding the death sentences and life imprisonments handed down by the lower court—has been published. Azizur Rahman Dulu, lawyer for the accused, confirmed to BSS that he had received a copy of the 131-page judgment.
On March 16, the HC delivered its ruling after completing hearings on the death references and appeals, affirming the lower court’s decision to sentence 20 individuals to death and five others to life imprisonment.
The 20 convicts whose death sentences were upheld are: Mehedy Hasan Russell, Md Anik Sarker, Mehedi Hasan Robin, Ifti Mosharraf Sokal, Md Moniruzzaman Monir, Md Meftahul Islam Jion, Md Majedur Rahman Majed, Md Mujahidur Rahman, Khandoker Tabakkarul Islam Tanvir, Hossain Mohammad Toha, Md Shamim Billah, ASM Nazmus Sadat, Morshed Amarta Islam, Muntasir Al Jemmy, Md Shamsul Arefin Rafat, Md Mizanur Rahman, SM Mahmud Setu, Morshed-uz-Zaman Mondol Zisan, Ehtemashul Rabbi Tanim, and Mutoba Rafid.
Those whose life imprisonment sentences were upheld are: Muhtasim Fuad Hossain, Md Akash Hossain, Muaz Abu Huraira, Amit Saha, and Ishtiaq Ahmed Munna.
Abrar Fahad, a student of electrical and electronic engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was tragically beaten to death on October 6, 2019, at the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall. A Dhaka court later sentenced 20 to death and five to life imprisonment on December 8, 2021. The case was referred to the HC for confirmation on January 6, 2022.
