The Communist Party of China (CPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to stand by the people of Bangladesh in realizing their aspirations for economic development and prosperity.
This assurance was conveyed during a courtesy meeting between Peng Xiubin, Director General of the Bureau of Southeast and South Asian Affairs of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), and Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin on Sunday, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the discussion, Peng emphasized that inter-party relations are a vital foundation of Bangladesh-China ties and expressed the CPC's intention to broaden exchanges with think tanks and academic institutions. He highlighted China's dedication to strengthening bilateral trade, supporting infrastructure development, and fostering cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Peng also reiterated China's unwavering support for Bangladesh as a close neighbor and key development partner, aligning with its neighborhood diplomacy policy. Referring to the recent successful visit of Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus to China and his meeting with President Xi Jinping, Peng described Bangladesh as an important partner and trusted friend.
Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin, in turn, reaffirmed Bangladesh's strong adherence to the One China Principle and expressed satisfaction over the recent productive visits of Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser and Foreign Affairs Adviser to China. He noted that these visits have bolstered cooperation in sectors including trade, investment, healthcare, and education.
The Foreign Secretary thanked the Chinese government for offering special medical treatment facilities to Bangladeshi patients in Kunming and welcomed the easing of visa processes. He also suggested that affordable airfare on Dhaka-Kunming flights would further encourage Bangladeshi patients to seek treatment in China, and requested an increase in scholarships for Bangladeshi students at Chinese universities.
Highlighting the upcoming visit of a 100-member Chinese business delegation led by China's Commerce Minister, he remarked that it reflects the strengthening economic partnership between the two nations.
The meeting also included discussions on the Rohingya crisis.
