BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers Sign Maritime Transport Cooperation Agreement

  • BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers signed the "BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Cooperation" agreement on Thursday, marking a major step toward strengthening regional connectivity.

  • Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to fostering collective peace, progress, and prosperity through a shared BIMSTEC vision.

  • Hossain participated in the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, alongside Foreign Ministers from BIMSTEC Member States.

  • He emphasized the need for tangible and result-oriented cooperation, particularly through the effective implementation of the BIMSTEC Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to boost intra-regional trade.

  • Addressing the issue of 1.2 million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, he urged the creation of a conducive environment in Myanmar to facilitate their safe and dignified repatriation with rights and security.

  • The Foreign Ministers finalized the draft provisional agenda for the 6th BIMSTEC Summit and the Summit Declaration, both set to be reviewed at the upcoming Summit on Friday.

  • The 21st BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting will be held in Dhaka.

  • The meeting concluded with the adoption of the report of the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting.
