Charcoal Shilpo Rakkha-O-Samskar Parishad Unveils Manifesto for BCCMEA 2025-2027 Election
Charcoal Shilpo Rakkha-O-Samskar Parishad, a panel contesting the Bangladesh Charcoal Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BCCMEA) election, has announced its manifesto, focusing on industry protection, major reforms, and overall development for the 2025-2027 term.
"The election, scheduled for March 8, has 43 voters. If elected, we are committed to safeguarding the industry and implementing key reforms for its growth," said Atikur Rahman, the Parishad’s presidential candidate, during a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) auditorium on Sunday.
In a written statement, Atikur highlighted the challenges faced by the industry, including unplanned factory setups, raw material shortages, difficulties in obtaining environmental clearance, and high shipping costs.
"The BCCMEA needs a capable leadership to address these issues. Government support is also crucial. If elected, we will ensure the industry's compliance and sustainability to contribute to national economic growth," he added.
Atikur further mentioned that the charcoal industry has an investment of Tk 10 billion and directly employs 25,000 people. "Last year, we exported Tk 3.5 billion worth of charcoal. We aim to strengthen the industry further. However, a vested group is working against it. If elected, we will integrate BCCMEA into the FBCCI and establish a permanent office," he asserted.
Muhammed Nazmul Islam, the Parishad's convener, outlined their plans to transform all factories into compliant units, facilitate access to low-interest loans, introduce health insurance for workers, and organize international trade fairs to expand the market.
Speaking as the chief guest, Engineer Harun-Ur-Rashid stressed the importance of collective efforts and urged government policy support for industry development.
The event was also attended by DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and businessman Md Monirul Islam.
Meanwhile, another panel, Boisommo Birodhi Somonnito Parishad, is also contesting the election.
