Court Orders Arrest of Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy and 27 Others

A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against 29 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, in connection with two separate cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regarding irregularities in the allocation of plots under the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Purbachal New Town Project. The orders were passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib after accepting the charge sheets submitted in both cases. The court has directed the authorities to submit reports on the execution of the arrest warrants by April 29, as confirmed by ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir.

Details of the First Case Involving Sheikh Hasina

The first case was filed by ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin on January 14 against eight persons, including Sheikh Hasina, on allegations of abuse of power in the allocation of a 10-katha plot. The charge sheet, later filed on March 10 by ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya, named a total of 12 accused. These include government officials such as Ministry of Housing and Public Works Senior Assistant Secretary Purobi Goldar, former RAJUK officials, and ex-State Minister Sharif Ahmed. The charge sheet alleges that Sheikh Hasina failed to file a proper application as required by RAJUK’s process and violated legal and procedural norms to obtain the plot. Despite owning housing property within RAJUK's jurisdiction, she is accused of securing the plot with malicious intent and registering it under her name.

Second Case Involving Sajeeb Wazed Joy

The second case was filed by ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan and includes 15 individuals, among them Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy. The charge sheet, submitted on March 10, names 17 accused, including senior government officials and RAJUK personnel. The investigation report claims that Sajeeb Wazed Joy also did not follow RAJUK’s formal application process and, despite his family’s existing property in Dhaka, acquired a 10-katha plot using undue influence. The plot was allegedly registered in his name and kept under the possession of the accused, in violation of applicable laws and policies.

Allegations of Systemic Abuse and Legal Violations

Both charge sheets highlight serious procedural lapses and accuse the named individuals of manipulating the allocation system for personal gain. The cases underline the ACC’s allegations of systemic abuse of authority and breach of regulations governing government land distribution in one of Dhaka’s major urban development projects.
