Access to Supreme Court courtrooms will remain restricted due to security concerns.

Due to security concerns, access to the courtrooms of both divisions of the Supreme Court will remain restricted from today for litigants and unauthorised individuals, with the exception of lawyers.

According to a notification signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiquee, the Supreme Court, as the highest judicial authority of the country, is a key national institution. Ensuring the security of the Chief Justice, judges of both divisions, lawyers involved in proceedings, and the court premises as a whole is therefore imperative.

The notification noted that the presence of some litigants, case-related persons and unauthorised individuals inside the courtrooms has been creating security risks, disrupting the peaceful environment, and hampering judicial proceedings. It added that such activities have also posed threats to the safety of judges, lawyers, and officers and staff of both divisions.

In view of this, entry into the courtrooms of both divisions will remain restricted to lawyers only, while litigants and unauthorised persons will not be allowed inside.

The order also imposes a complete ban on carrying any type of weapon—legal or illegal—including deadly weapons, explosives and narcotics, as well as on holding any assembly or procession within the Supreme Court premises.

The directive takes effect from today and will remain in force until December 31. Legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the order. Lawyers, their assistants, officers, staff and litigants have been urged to remain mindful of the restrictions.
