Constitutional Reform: BNP presents 62 proposals, including a two-term limit for the Prime Minister

On Tuesday, the BNP submitted 62 proposals to the Constitutional Reform Commission, which included the retention of the Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister positions.

Among the proposals were suggestions to limit a Prime Minister’s tenure to two consecutive terms, establish a second chamber in Parliament, and introduce provisions for referendums.

A two-member delegation, led by BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, presented the written proposals to Professor Ali Riaz, the head of the Constitutional Reform Commission, at the Parliament building.

In a statement to the press, Salahuddin explained that the proposals aimed to ensure a balance of power in accordance with the people's desires.

"We have made proposals concerning the judiciary, as well as recommendations for the creation of a Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister. Our focus was on addressing all aspects of the executive, judiciary, and legislative branches to maintain a balance of power," he said.

The BNP leader added that the Constitutional Reform Commission would forward the proposals to the government for consideration and expressed hope that the discussions with political parties would lead to their implementation.
