Student road blockades create significant traffic jams throughout Dhaka
Student protests at multiple locations across the capital have halted traffic, causing severe congestion for commuters.
Students from seven affiliated colleges have blocked the Science Lab intersection, demanding the creation of an independent university, leading to severe traffic disruptions and forcing many commuters to walk to their destinations. The blockade, which began around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, has brought traffic to a standstill in areas like New Market, Nilkhet, Science Lab, and beyond. Key routes from Nilkhet to Science Lab, Shahbagh, Dhanmondi, and Mohammadpur toward Science Lab are heavily congested, with gridlock extending to surrounding areas like Banglamotor, Karwan Bazar, Panthapath, and Farmgate.
Simultaneously, student protests are taking place at four other locations across Dhaka, each focused on different issues. In front of City College, students are demanding the reinstatement of their principal, while at Kabi Nazrul Government College, students have marched to call for the reinstatement of Deputy Principal Professor Saleh Ahmed Fakir.
Additionally, job seekers are protesting outside Shikkha Bhaban, urging the government to raise the age limit for government jobs to 35.
