Bangladesh missed out on direct qualification for the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup following an eight-wicket loss to the West Indies in Basseterre on Friday.

They finished with 21 points in the Women's Championship standings, tied with New Zealand. However, New Zealand secured the sixth and final automatic spot due to having more wins—nine compared to Bangladesh's eight.

New Zealand now joins Australia, India, England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka in earning automatic places for the World Cup, which is set to take place in India later this year. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will compete in the World Cup qualifiers alongside West Indies, Pakistan, and Ireland. Scotland and Thailand will also be part of the qualifiers, with two teams from these six advancing to the main event.

The third ODI between Bangladesh and West Indies was uneventful. Bangladesh, batting first, was dismissed for 118 runs in 43.5 overs. Sharmin Akhter top-scored with 37. After being well-placed at 94 for 3, Bangladesh collapsed, losing their final seven wickets for just 24 runs in 13 overs.

Karishma Ramharack took four wickets for the second consecutive game, giving up only 12 runs in 6.5 overs, while Zaida James claimed two wickets.

West Indies chased down the target in 27.3 overs, with Qiana Joseph scoring 39 and Deandra Dottin remaining not out on 33. Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter each took a wicket.

Bangladesh's tour of the West Indies continues in Basseterre, where they will play three T20Is on January 27, 29, and 31.
