Babar was released from prison after serving 17 years

BNP senior leader Lutfozzaman Babar was released from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj at 1:45 PM on Thursday, nearly 17 years after being incarcerated. Senior Jail Superintendent Suraiya Akter confirmed the release to reporters.
Babar’s release was also confirmed by the BNP media cell. Following his release, he is expected to offer prayers at the grave of BNP founder and former Bangladesh president Ziaur Rahman before heading to his residence in Gulshan.
Babar served as the Home Minister in the last BNP-led government from 2001 to 2007 and was elected as a BNP lawmaker from the Netrokona-4 constituency.
