The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on Friday that Venezuela's opposition leader and democracy activist, Maria Corina Machado, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Jorgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo, stated that Machado was recognized for her relentless efforts to promote democratic rights for the Venezuelan people and her fight for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
