Trump Holds Phone Talks With Qatar’s Emir, Key Mediator in War
US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Friday to discuss diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the US-Iran war, as international efforts intensify to prevent a fresh escalation of hostilities.
The high-level conversation was part of a series of diplomatic contacts involving regional leaders, including Iran's top diplomat, who held discussions with counterparts across the Gulf amid growing concerns that Trump could resume military strikes following significant Republican losses in the midterm elections.
According to a statement from the Emir's office, the Amiri Diwan, Sheikh Tamim received a call from Trump during which the two leaders discussed Qatar-led diplomatic initiatives aimed at easing regional tensions.
The Emir stressed the need to sustain dialogue and pursue diplomatic solutions to resolve disputes, warning against further escalation in the region.
