US reiterates commitment to partnering with Bangladesh to foster regional stability

US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau has lauded the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus during a pivotal moment for Bangladesh, while reaffirming Washington's continued support for the country. The remarks came following a meeting between Landau and Bangladesh's National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman on Wednesday at the State Department in Washington, DC, reports UNB.
During their meeting, the two sides discussed a range of key issues, including the Rohingya crisis, ongoing tariff negotiations, developments across South Asia, and Bangladesh’s ongoing democratic transition, according to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
Separately, Dr Rahman also met with Assistant US Trade Representative Brendan Lynch, where they held constructive talks focused on a reciprocal tariff agreement between Bangladesh and the United States.
Following the meeting, Deputy Secretary Landau highlighted the discussions on bilateral ties, particularly expanding trade and commercial cooperation.
In a post from his verified X account, he stated: "The US is committed to working with Bangladesh to promote peace and stability in the region. Enjoyed meeting Bangladesh NSA Rahman today and hearing about the interim government’s efforts ahead of the national election."
