Pathum Nissanka’s fluent half-century steered Sri Lanka to 100 for 1 at lunch on Day 3 of the first Test against Bangladesh in Galle.

Nissanka reached his fifty in 88 balls, hitting six boundaries, and stabilized the innings alongside Dinesh Chandimal after debutant Lahiru Udara’s early departure.

The opening partnership was broken at 47 runs when Taijul Islam dismissed Udara for 29 with a well-flighted delivery.

By the lunch break, Nissanka remained unbeaten on 46 from 83 deliveries, while Chandimal was on 22 off 47, with the pair adding an unbroken 50-run stand for the second wicket.

Earlier in the session, Bangladesh’s first innings wrapped up quickly at 495, with Asitha Fernando taking the final wicket to complete figures of 4 for 86.

Sri Lanka’s innings also marked a rare moment in their Test history — it was the first time in nearly three decades they opened with two right-handed batters.
