Trump on India’s Op Sindoor Against Terror in Pakistan: ‘Hope It Ends Very Quickly’
Trump Says India, Pakistan ‘Have Fought for Decades’ as Doval Briefs U.S. on Pahalgam Response 2/2

In response to precision strikes carried out by Indian armed forces on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, U.S. President Donald Trump commented during a press conference in Washington, D.C., that he had anticipated some form of action. “We just heard about it as we were walking into the Oval Office. I guess we knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past,” he said, alluding to the long history of conflict between India and Pakistan. Trump expressed hope that the situation would de-escalate swiftly, stating, “They have been fighting for many, many decades and centuries, when you think about it… I just hope it ends very quickly.”
Following the strikes, India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval briefed his U.S. counterpart and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on what India has named ‘Operation Sindoor’. The operation, launched early Wednesday, targeted nine terror-related sites in Pakistan, including areas within Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Indian Ministry of Defence described the operation as a “precise and restrained response” to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, emphasizing that no Pakistani military facilities were hit, thereby maintaining a calibrated and non-escalatory stance. According to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Washington, the Pahalgam attack resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians and investigations, including technical inputs and survivor testimonies, indicated the involvement of Pakistan-based terrorist groups.
The statement criticized Pakistan for failing to act against terror networks, instead opting for denial and accusing India of staging false flag operations. It reiterated that India’s actions were “measured, responsible and designed to be non-escalatory,” targeting only known terrorist camps while avoiding civilian, economic, and military sites.
