Three killed, nine injured as microbus crashes into road divider in Bogura
Three people were killed when a passenger microbus lost control and crashed into a road divider in Sherpur, Bogura.
At least nine others sustained injuries and were rescued before being taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The accident took place around 7:30am on Wednesday in the Chhonka area of Bhabanipur Union along the Dhaka–Bogura highway.
The deceased have been identified as Shiuli Begum (48), Tayeba Khatun (35), and the driver of the microbus, Rintu (47).
The injured include Fatema (10), Shahidul (40), Toushib (30), Tasmia (20), Helena (60), Tarikul (36), Fatema (2), Arham (7), and Hamim (30). Hospital sources said several of them are in critical condition.
According to police and local sources, the microbus was travelling from Dhaka to Kaunia in Rangpur. Upon reaching Chhonka, the vehicle—reportedly speeding—lost control after its gas cylinder exploded and crashed into the road divider. One person died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital and during treatment.
The bodies have been kept at the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Md. Rais Uddin, inspector in charge of the Sherpur Highway Police Camp, said police and fire service teams responded quickly after receiving the report and carried out rescue operations. He confirmed that three deaths have been recorded so far and efforts are ongoing to verify the victims’ identities. Traffic on the highway has since returned to normal.
Police have seized the damaged microbus, and legal procedures are underway.
