Tarique welcomes the Australian MPs’ appeal for democracy and fair elections in Bangladesh
He says their stance reflects the hopes and concerns of millions of Bangladeshis.
Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has extended his heartfelt thanks to members of the Australian Parliament for raising their voices on democracy, human rights, and electoral integrity in Bangladesh, saying their stance mirrors the hopes and concerns of millions of Bangladeshis.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, he wrote: “Many Bangladeshis, including myself, offer our sincere appreciation to the Australian parliamentarians who have spoken with clarity and conscience on the issues of democracy, human rights, and electoral integrity in Bangladesh. Their thoughtful intervention reflects a deep commitment to universal democratic principles and to the wellbeing of the Bangladeshi people.”
The BNP leader noted that citizens across Bangladesh are increasingly worried about political uncertainty, security, and the need for an electoral process where every voice can be heard without fear or restriction.
“These concerns come from ordinary people who want nothing more than stability, justice, and the chance to choose their future through a peaceful and credible democratic process,” he said.
At this crucial moment, Tarique said, the appeal from Australian MPs to safeguard the safety, dignity, and political rights of all election participants strongly resonates with people in Bangladesh.
“Their message affirms what millions have been saying for months: democracy is strongest when it is inclusive, transparent, and protected from violence or intimidation,” he added.
Tarique also praised the Bangladeshi diaspora in Australia for bringing these issues to the global stage, acknowledging their contributions to Australian society and their continued dedication to their homeland. “Their advocacy, driven by love for Bangladesh, has helped ensure the country’s challenges and aspirations are better understood internationally,” he said.
He added that Australia and Bangladesh enjoy long-standing ties rooted in respect and cooperation.
Tarique thanked the Australian lawmakers who expressed solidarity, saying their support underscores a shared global commitment to democracy.
“When nations stand together, we can inspire one another toward peace, justice, and progress,” he said.
