EC to convene preparatory meeting on local government elections this afternoon

The Election Commission (EC) will hold a preparatory meeting with representatives of various ministries, divisions and authorities today to discuss preparations for the upcoming local government elections and the by-election to the vacant Thakurgaon-1 constituency.

Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin will preside over the meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 2:30pm at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon. Election commissioners will also be present.

According to a letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain, the meeting has been called to discuss preparations for elections to local government institutions as well as the by-election to the vacant Thakurgaon-1 seat.

EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said on Tuesday that the schedule for the local government elections would be finalised at the meeting.
