PM Tarique Rahman is taking strict action against negligence in government: Rizvi.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is taking a firm stance against negligence in government work and is not showing leniency toward anyone who fails to perform their responsibilities, said his Political Adviser and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday.

“Whether a person is a bureaucrat or a political figure, the prime minister is taking strict action against anyone who neglects their duties,” Rizvi said.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled “Bangladesh of Tomorrow” at the CRAB auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday morning. The event also marked the unveiling of a book titled Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Five-Month Development Journey, edited by Rotarian M Nazmul Hasan.

Rizvi praised the role of books in preserving knowledge and advancing civilisation, describing them as a means of dispelling darkness and expanding people’s understanding of the world.

Discussing the government’s first five months in office, Rizvi said the administration had faced various criticisms and debates, but the newly unveiled book documented its activities and achievements through facts, figures and statistics.

He highlighted several initiatives, including the Family Card and Farmer Card programmes, canal excavation projects and plans to introduce a Health Card. He also said the book outlined steps taken by Tarique Rahman to address the country’s gas shortage.

According to Rizvi, Tarique Rahman began working on his election pledges immediately after assuming office and has been travelling across the country to monitor their implementation.

“He is visiting fields, markets, river ports and other areas, working day and night and personally monitoring whether his election commitments are being fulfilled,” Rizvi said.

Rizvi reiterated that the prime minister would take strong action against officials and political figures who failed to carry out their responsibilities, while encouraging those who were performing well to continue working for public welfare.

He said the book presents an overview of initiatives undertaken by the BNP-led government under Tarique Rahman’s leadership to protect public interests, improve welfare and strengthen the country’s social safety net.

Addressing what he called misinformation about the government, Rizvi said the book would provide factual information to help people assess the administration’s actual performance.

He said a record containing facts, figures and details of the prime minister’s activities and commitment to the public would serve as an important historical document and help people distinguish between the government’s achievements and what he described as misleading narratives.

The programme was chaired by organisation adviser Rotarian Nazmul Hasan and moderated by its president Saidur Rahman. Parliament member Advocate Arifa Sultana Ruma, BNP Executive Committee member Mahbubur Rahman and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Vice-President Touhid Awal, among others, attended the event.
