Tarique presides over first cabinet meeting at the Secretariat
Introductory session takes place as the prime minister starts work at his designated office.
The first cabinet meeting under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman began this afternoon at the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat.
The session commenced at 3:00pm, according to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Earlier in the day, Tarique visited the Secretariat for the first time as head of government. For more than a decade, most cabinet and secretaries’ meetings had been held at the Prime Minister’s Office instead.
A meeting of secretaries was scheduled to follow at 4:00pm. With these engagements, the new prime minister formally started work at his designated office in the Secretariat for the first time.
No special agenda was reported for either meeting. Officials indicated that the discussions were expected to be largely introductory, with the prime minister likely to outline directions in line with his party’s election manifesto.
The prime minister, along with ministers and state ministers of the new government, was sworn in yesterday afternoon. Later that night, the Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification assigning portfolios.
