Students block Dhaka roads for a second consecutive day, demanding a central university ordinance

Due to the blockade for a second consecutive day, traffic at the Science Lab intersection remained completely halted, eyewitnesses reported. Anwar Hossain Khan, inspector (investigation) of New Market Police Station, said the students blocked the intersection around 1:00 pm.

According to witnesses, students from Dhaka College and Eden Mohila College staged a procession from their campuses and blocked the street, chanting slogans demanding the issuance of the university ordinance. Around the same time, students of Government Bangla College blocked the Technical Intersection with the same demand, bringing traffic in the area to a standstill, SM Jakaria, officer-in-charge of Darussalam Police Station, said.

Police reportedly tried to divert vehicles to alternative routes following the blockades.

On social media, users urged commuters to avoid the affected roads and sought updates on traffic conditions across the city. Yesterday, Dhaka faced severe traffic congestion for at least five hours due to protests and blockades by students of seven colleges and Tejgaon College at key points, causing widespread disruption.

Tejgaon College students blocked the Farmgate area yesterday, demanding justice for a fellow student, while students from seven colleges blocked Science Lab, Technical Intersection, and Tanti Bazar in Old Dhaka, pressing for the Dhaka Central University ordinance. Before leaving Science Lab yesterday, the students had announced they would resume road blockades at the same three points today.
