Special prayers were offered for Khaleda Zia following the Jummah prayer.
Special prayers will be offered today after Jummah prayers at mosques across the country for former prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The announcement was made by the Islamic Foundation (IF) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs through an official letter issued on Tuesday by its Coordination Division, signed by Director Md Mohiuddin.
According to the letter, prayers seeking eternal peace for Begum Khaleda Zia’s departed soul will be held nationwide following Jummah prayers.
In the wake of her passing, the government has declared three days of state mourning. During this period, the national flag will remain at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, educational establishments, as well as public and private buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad.
The Islamic Foundation has directed its divisional and district offices to ensure proper observance of the mourning programme and to take necessary steps to organise the special prayers in accordance with the directive.
