School student found dead after hanging in Dhaka’s Lalbagh area

Police said the body of a school student was found hanging at a residence in Dhaka’s Lalbagh Posta area.

Farhan Rahman Jihad, 17, a 10th-grade student of Ideal Model School and College, was discovered by family members around 7:30pm on Sunday, hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf at their home near Shahi Mosque.

He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at about 8:30pm, according to Inspector Md Faruk of the DMCH Police Outpost.

Quoting Jihad’s friends, his elder brother Fahim Rahman Rudro said Jihad had been in a relationship with a girl from school and had gone out with her earlier in the day. “He returned home in the evening and was talking on his phone. At one point, he had an argument, went into his room, and locked the door. When he did not respond to our calls, we broke open the door and found him hanging from the fan with a scarf. We brought him down and rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” he said.

Inspector Faruk added that the body has been kept at the morgue for an autopsy. “The family has described it as a suicide. Police are investigating the incident and trying to determine the exact cause,” he said.
