Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, has warned that the country is heading toward challenging times, urging citizens to remain patient and resilient.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party Secretary General said the ongoing war is having serious impacts, with fuel supplies declining and the prices of fuel and essential commodities likely to rise.

He made the remarks on Monday while speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of the re-excavation of the Neha River in Raypur Union under Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.

Fakhrul noted that although fuel shortages have emerged due to the conflict, vandalising petrol pumps is unacceptable. He warned that any mob activity would be dealt with firmly and no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.

He also stressed that no irregularities would be tolerated in the canal excavation project. Those involved in corruption or misconduct would face both party and legal action.

Highlighting the importance of the initiative, he said the excavation would help maintain ecological balance and create opportunities for fish farming and duck rearing.

Among others present at the event were State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, District Commissioner Israt Farzana, Superintendent of Police Bellal Hossain, and local BNP leaders.
