Prime Minister says intimidation tactics cannot hold the nation’s people back

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday said fear and intimidation would not succeed in holding back the people of Bangladesh.

“It is not possible to suppress the people of this country through scare tactics,” he said.

Issuing a warning against any attempt to disrupt public order, he added, “We must remain vigilant so that no one can create chaos again. We will not allow anyone to paralyse the country with prolonged hartals by undermining public peace.”

Tarique Rahman, who is also the chairman of the ruling BNP, made the remarks while addressing a public rally at the Eidgah ground in Jashore town in the afternoon.

During his speech, he cited figures on the sacrifices, repression, and cases filed against BNP leaders and activists during past movements.

Emphasising the government’s commitments, he said fulfilling election promises would help transform the country. “The people of Bangladesh are the ultimate source of BNP’s strength. Our goal is to carry forward the unfinished work of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman for the welfare of the people,” he added.
