Bangladesh is an attractive destination for investment, Fakhrul tells the US envoy

Describing Bangladesh as a promising investment destination, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir invited foreign entrepreneurs to invest in the country.

He noted that the government is placing strong emphasis on expanding private sector participation in development initiatives.

The minister made the remarks when US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen met him at his office at the Secretariat on Monday, according to a PID handout.

During the meeting, the two sides held detailed discussions on various aspects of bilateral cooperation and development priorities.

Underscoring the importance of international collaboration in Bangladesh’s ongoing development efforts, Fakhrul said greater technical assistance, research support and investment are needed.

He identified water supply, agriculture, infrastructure development and rural connectivity as key sectors requiring increased investment.

The minister also pointed out that the United States has long played a significant role in strengthening the capacity of research institutions in the region, expressing hope that such cooperation would expand further.

Ambassador Christensen stressed the need for coordinated initiatives in areas of mutual interest, particularly highlighting agriculture, energy support and renewable energy, including solar power.

Following the meeting, both sides expressed optimism that strengthened cooperation and partnership would further accelerate development and progress in Bangladesh and the United States.

Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hassan and Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Mohammad Showkat Rashid Chowdhury, among others, were present at the meeting.
