Miscreants Stop Bus in Sewrapara, Open Fire and Set It Ablaze
Police said legal action is in progress, and CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify the culprits.
A group of unidentified miscreants opened fire and set a passenger bus ablaze in Dhaka’s Mirpur Sewrapara area early Friday.
The attack took place around 7:00 am when an Alif Paribahan bus was ambushed shortly after reaching the Sewrapara neighborhood.
According to the driver, several men signaled for the bus to stop. Once it halted, the attackers allegedly assaulted the driver and his assistant, forcing them off the vehicle. Alarmed passengers also fled the scene.
The assailants then fired multiple gunshots at the front of the bus and set it on fire before escaping.
Police responded swiftly and recovered the burnt vehicle.
Preliminary findings suggest the attack may be linked to internal disputes within the transport company. Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammad Maksudur Rahman said several employees had recently been laid off, and investigators suspect disgruntled former staff may have been involved.
He added that legal action is underway and CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify those responsible.
Meanwhile, the bus company claimed that a man previously involved in extortion-related attacks on their staff may also be connected to the incident.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive and apprehend the perpetrators.
