BNP To Give ‘Green Signal’ Soon To Single Candidates For Constituencies: Salahuddin

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said the party is in the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections.
“Very soon, a single candidate will be given the ‘green signal’ in each constituency to begin groundwork,” he told journalists on Friday at his Gulshan residence in Dhaka while discussing current political issues.
Responding to queries, Salahuddin noted that BNP is a large democratic and liberal party with multiple qualified aspirants in every seat — in some cases as many as 10 to 12. “We are now systematically finalising our nominees and will soon authorise one candidate per constituency to start working on the ground. However, it will become official only after the election schedule is declared,” he clarified.
He urged that unnecessary issues should not be raised that could create fresh crises in national life and added that BNP is in dialogue with several political parties about forming an election-focused alliance.
Stressing unity among pro-democracy forces, Salahuddin said anti-fascist parties, despite internal differences, would stand together in defence of democracy.
He reiterated BNP’s long-standing demand for accountability of the Awami League, but added the party does not support banning political parties through executive orders — insisting that any such measures must go through judicial process.
“Even after committing genocide, the Awami League shows no remorse. Instead, they continue plotting against the country from Delhi,” he alleged, urging that the government should file cases against the Awami League in the International Crimes Tribunal.
On the recent comments made by the Chief Adviser regarding the Awami League, Salahuddin said, “The Chief Adviser could have avoided saying that the people want the current government for five years.”
