Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam today urged all anti-fascist forces to unite and cooperate with the government in implementing reforms.

“Let us all, who stand as anti-fascist forces, unite on the Bangladesh path. Please cooperate with the government to carry out the reforms,” he said.

Mahfuj made the call while meeting the families of the July martyrs at the Ramganj Upazila Parishad auditorium.

“Following the path of the martyrs, we will embrace their spirit. We will fight again. Our struggle does not end with the fall of the fascist Awami League regime; we must also root out all remnants of Awami League fascism that persist in various sectors — administration, education, and culture,” he added.

The adviser said that reform proposals prepared by multiple commissions are ready for implementation, alongside plans to establish a drug rehabilitation centre, a nursing college, and upgrades to the Sadar Hospital and education system in Ramganj and Lakshmipur.

He emphasized that these essential reforms, agreed upon with political parties, should be carried out before the upcoming national election.

“These reforms are not mere rhetoric,” Mahfuj said. “We cannot hold elections while keeping intact the institutions that Sheikh Hasina destroyed — the same institutions that upheld her regime.”

He further stated, “Before holding elections, those institutions and the brokers of Hasina must be dismantled, and her perpetrators — including Hasina herself — must be brought to justice before we move forward.”

Mahfuj also pledged to complete the unfinished work left by the late minister Ziaul Haq Zia.

Regarding the trial of the former prime minister, he said, “We began this journey with a pledge for justice, and that work has already started. Bringing the fascist murderer Hasina to justice will bring some comfort to the families of the martyrs.”

He noted that trials are ongoing in many cases at the tribunals and that these proceedings will continue under future governments. “Everyone involved in the killings and enforced disappearances of students and civilians will face justice,” he affirmed.

The adviser highlighted that substantial progress has been made in the reform process, with political parties reaching consensus and signing the July Charter — which he described as a major milestone for Bangladesh.

“It is a remarkable achievement that political parties came together and adopted a government-endorsed document. Through this, Bangladesh has entered a new phase,” he said.

He added that if the next elected government faithfully implements the July Charter and reform programmes, the vision of a new Bangladesh — one with balanced power, rule of law, justice, and an end to disappearances and killings — will be realised.

Following the meeting, the adviser distributed agricultural incentives to poor farmers in Ramganj and met with the families of the July martyrs. Later, he attended the ninth death anniversary programme of former MP and State Minister Ziaul Haq Zia before departing for Cumilla.

The event was chaired by Ramganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Robin Shish, with NCP Central Committee Joint Convener Mahabub Alam, upazila officials, civil society members, and citizens in attendance.

Earlier, upon his arrival in Ramganj, Adviser Mahfuj Alam was welcomed with flowers by Deputy Commissioner Rajib Kumar Sarkar, Superintendent of Police Md. Akhter Hossain, and other officials, and was given a guard of honour.
