Interim Government Tackling Three Challenging Responsibilities — Rizwana

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser, stated that the interim government is currently handling three challenging responsibilities: reforms, delivering justice, and managing the upcoming elections.
Speaking to reporters after a function in the capital, she emphasized that these tasks are national duties rather than a pursuit of power. “Our responsibility is a national one. We said we have taken the responsibility, not power. Success depends on cooperation from all parties,” she said.
Rizwana highlighted that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has set a firm timeline for the next election, scheduled between December 2025 and June 2026, stressing that there is no room for delay or deviation.
Reflecting on a recent advisory council meeting held at Jamuna, Rizwana explained that they critically reviewed their performance to ensure they are fulfilling their mandated duties. Since taking office, the interim government has faced numerous public demands, leading to street protests that have paralyzed Dhaka city. “Expectation is one thing, but responsibility is another,” she remarked.
The adviser acknowledged the challenges ahead but affirmed their focus on overcoming obstacles to meet their key responsibilities. She denied external pressure, only feeling the internal stress to perform effectively. “If we fail, we will return to our previous pursuits,” she added.
Despite difficulties, progress has been made, including the formation of reform commissions that have submitted reports, with ongoing efforts to build political consensus on reforms.
Rizwana reiterated the commitment to holding elections within the announced timeframe and mentioned that a new tribunal has been established to expedite trials related to offenses during the July uprising. This tribunal is expected to begin functioning soon.
