NCP’s Nahid Islam Urges Swift Enforcement of AL Ban, Hails Government Decision
National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam on Saturday night called on the government to immediately implement its decision to ban all activities of the Awami League under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
In a Facebook post made shortly after the announcement, Nahid congratulated the revolutionary students and the people, while applauding the government for what he described as a historic step. He emphasized the need for prompt action to enforce all related decisions without delay.
Nahid also demanded that those responsible for nationwide mass killings be swiftly identified and brought to justice. “The Election Commission must immediately revoke the registration of the fascist Awami League, which has now been declared banned,” he added.
The decision to ban all Awami League activities—including online operations—was taken during a special meeting of the Council of Advisers on Saturday night. The ban will remain in effect until the International Crimes Tribunal completes its trials of the party and its leaders.
Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul stated that the decision aims to safeguard national security, protect the leaders and activists of the July movement, and ensure the safety of plaintiffs and witnesses involved in the tribunal. He confirmed that a gazette notification will be issued on the next working day.
Following the announcement, hundreds of demonstrators who had been rallying for the ban marched in celebration near Hotel InterContinental, close to the Chief Adviser’s residence in Jamuna
