Government Bans Awami League Activities

The interim government has imposed a ban on all activities of the Awami League, effective until the conclusion of ongoing trials against the party and its leaders at the International Crimes Tribunal.

The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the advisory council held on Saturday night at the state guest house Jamuna in Dhaka, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Following the meeting, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul announced the decision to journalists by reading out a prepared statement at a press briefing outside the venue.
