The Health Reform Commission has proposed the establishment of an independent public service commission exclusively for the health sector to enhance transparency in recruitment and promotions for key roles.

This recommendation was included in the commission’s report, which was submitted to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on May 5.

The proposed body would have the authority to oversee the appointment and promotion processes for first-class, second-class, and other critical positions within the health sector.

Additionally, the commission recommended forming a high-level search committee responsible for identifying and recommending qualified candidates for top positions, including vice-chancellors, pro-vice-chancellors, and treasurers of medical universities, as well as director generals and principals of medical colleges.

The 12-member Health Reform Commission, chaired by Prof Dr AK Azad Khan, president of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh, was formed in November last year.
