Government committee suggests the withdrawal of 4,615 political cases.

The Ministry of Law’s committee, established to review and recommend the withdrawal of politically motivated and harassing cases, has so far proposed lifting 4,615 cases.
Chaired by Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, the committee has conducted six meetings to assess the cases and determine their eligibility for withdrawal, according to an update issued by the ministry on Thursday.
The statement noted that during its 15-year tenure, the ousted Awami League government had filed numerous cases against individuals, many of which were deemed politically driven or intended to harass opponents.
Following the political transition on August 5 last year, the interim government pledged to ensure justice by rescinding such cases, aligning with its broader commitment to upholding the rule of law and addressing politically motivated legal actions.
As the review process continues, further recommendations from the committee are expected.
