A crude bomb exploded outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area early Saturday after two men on a motorcycle allegedly hurled two crude bombs at the site, police said.
The incident took place at around 1:30am, when one of the two bombs exploded, said Ibne Mizan, deputy commissioner of police for the Tejgaon Division.
According to Mizan, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s bomb disposal unit arrived at the scene and safely defused the unexploded device.
He said the two men stopped their motorcycle outside the Prime Minister’s Office, waited for a few minutes and looked around before throwing the bombs and fleeing.
The suspects reportedly escaped towards Mirpur Road through Agargaon, he added.
Police launched an investigation immediately after the incident to identify those responsible, Mizan said.
Authorities are examining CCTV footage collected from nearby surveillance cameras to trace the suspects.
